About Us
As members of Rice Finance, undergraduates have the opportunity to collaboratively invest a real portion of the university's endowment. We work to provide a practical and goal-oriented introduction to the world of finance and financial management for all our members. By giving students the chance to make real financial decisions, we teach lessons that can only be learned outside the classroom. Our members know how to work as part of a team, and each member learns to communicate effectively in a boardroom environment.

Jonathan Woo – President, Chief Investment Officer
What’s going on guys! My name is Jonathan Woo and I am from Austin, Texas. I am a senior at Wiess college double majoring in Finance and Statistics with minors in Art History and Financial Computation and Modeling. This past summer I interned at Lazard in their global Power, Energy, and Infrastructure group in Houston. I also have prior work experience in endowment investing and commodity trading. In my free time, I love drinking coffee, shopping for knick-knacks, and hanging out with my dog, Dolly. If you have any questions or just want to chat, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Dylan Counil – Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
Hey everyone! My name is Dylan Council, and I'm currently a senior at Sid Richardson college majoring in Mathematical Economic Analysis and minoring in Financial Computation and Modeling. I am originally from the great city of Euless, Texas. This past summer I interned as an investment banking summer analyst at Goldman Sachs in their natural resources group here in Houston. In my free time, you'll find me reviewing movies on Letterboxd or playing and coaching IM sports. I also have the unfortunate displeasure of being an Arizona Cardinals and Phoenix Suns fan. Ian Kim – Senior Training Program Director
Hey, my name is Ian Kim, and I'm a junior at Jones College. I am originally from Houston, TX / Seoul, South Korea, and am studying Finance & Philosophy. This past summer, I was an equity research intern at Tiptree Advisors, and this upcoming summer, I will be an investment banking intern at Piper Sandler. In my free time, I enjoy watching SEC football, drinking quality black coffee, and working on my swing at the driving range.

Akshat Shah – Senior Training Program Director
Hi guys, my name is Akshat Shah, and I am a senior at McMurtry studying Finance with a minor in Financial Computation and Modeling. I am originally from Plainsboro, New Jersey. This year, I will be returning to Barclays here in Houston in the Global Natural Resources group, where I interned this past summer as an investment banking summer analyst. In my free time, I dance for Rice Bhangra, play IM Flag Football and Soccer for McMurtry, and watch FC Barcelona and the Houston Texans.
Sergio Karam – Junior Training Program Director
What’s up y'all! My name is Sergio Karam and I am originally from Houston, Texas. I am a junior at Wiess studying Finance with minors in Statistics and Entrepreneurship. This past summer I interned at the James Irvine foundation, where I was an investment intern for a $4.0B endowment, and next summer I will be an investment banking intern at Perella Weinberg in NYC. I am a huge car enthusiast and cyclist, and I also enjoy watching F1 and Star Wars and playing Clash Royale in my free time.
